post flood and more Bowie show de briefing - upcoming shows and releases

This was the running order for the Bowie In Berlin shows we did in January. The band was Clare Moore on drums and bv's, Stu Thomas on bass and bv's, JP Shilo and Pnny Ikinger on guitars, Miles Brown on vintage synths and theremin, Robin Casinader on piano, mellotron, organ and violin and Mick Harvery on percussion, bv's, sampler, acoustic guitar and lead vocals on one song. We rehearsed in the week before the end of 2016 and people tried out different songs. About four people wanted to do "Heroes" and clashed on other choices as well. Mick Harvey had to chooose songs and singers and then off we went. I chose songs that I thought were rockers and also were deep album tracks. In the end I also played harmonica on A New Career In A New Town as well. It was fun just running on and putting everything into a song and coming off. The show was more about the band and the music and the songs in the end. Blackout and JOE THE LION  had really odd phrasing and changes. Difficult to remember the words. The recordings had great guitar lines and riffs that would have helped but they were buried in the artsy mixes. I had to look up live versions of the songs to see how Bowie and his band played the songs years after their originl recording, and saw how they straightened them out. These two songs had guitar lines that were real architectural, the original recordings obscured them as if they'd done it to something as strong as REBEL REBEL. Bowie just wrote great groovers and rockers but was trying to understate that. IMHO.
The band was exceptional and it was great fun pending time with all the singers too.

Ok, we are still dealing with the late 2016 studio flood. Came home last night , driving through another monsoonal deluge in the hills. Roads streaming with water and debris. Around our street in the twilight three men were out dragging a large tree branch from the road in torrential rain. Kuckily, that very morning we'd had a roof plumber clear our gutters and attend to a problematic part of the roof. So we had no water inside. Result!

We play our first show of 2017 with the mistLY this Friday and i am really loking forward to it.

I've been reading some Wyndham Lewis, A Revenge For Love (1935), and some more Doris Lessing, London Observed (1992). We watched two seasons of the original Twin Peaks and also Ken Russell's THE DEVILS on VHS which was lent to us by Michael Nolan.
Neighbours has also been amazing with the return of DEE in 2017.

We went to the Sydney Myre Music Bowl twice in a week to see both Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and PJ Harvey. Greatly enjoyed both gigs. That is a big "room". (Its open aired if you don't know) . I liked all of Nicks new stuff the best and PJ Harvey only really played stuff from her last two albums. That was good because they're the ones I like as well.

 Be Seeing You.
